Preparing the Dough
- Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (180°C) and lining your baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. This should take about 2-3 minutes.
- Gradually add the flour and a pinch of salt to the butter-sugar mixture. Mix until the dough comes together and forms a cohesive ball. Do not overmix; just combine the ingredients.
Shaping and Baking
- Lightly flour a clean surface and roll out the shortbread dough to about 1/4-inch (0.6 cm) thickness.
- Use your favorite cookie cutters to create various shapes from the dough. Place the cutouts onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving a little space between each cookie.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until the edges of the cookies turn golden brown. Keep a close eye on them, as the baking time may vary depending on your oven.
Decorating (Optional)
- Once the cookies are done, remove them from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes. Then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- If you wish to decorate your shortbread cookies, you can use icing, sprinkles, or melted chocolate. Be creative and have fun with your designs.
