Ingredients

For the Perfect Brownie Base:
  • 1 cup 2 sticks unsalted butter
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
For the Decadent Fudge Icing:
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup 1 stick unsalted butter
  • 2 cups powdered sugar sifted
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Optional Toppings:
  • Chopped nuts e.g., almonds or walnuts
  • Fresh berries e.g., strawberries or raspberries
  • Warm caramel or melted chocolate for drizzling

Method

Prepare the Perfect Brownie Base
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking pan. You can also line it with parchment paper for easier removal.
  2. In a saucepan, melt the 1 cup of butter over low heat. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the melted butter into the sugar and egg mixture while continuing to whisk until smooth.
  5. In a separate bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, and salt.
  6. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; you want a fudgy texture.
  7. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Do not overbake; you want them to be fudgy.
  9. Remove the brownies from the oven and allow them to cool in the pan on a cooling rack while you prepare the fudge icing.
Create the Decadent Fudge Icing
  1. In a saucepan over low heat, melt the 1/2 cup of butter and the cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips, stirring constantly until smooth. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
  2. In a mixing bowl, sift the powdered sugar to remove any lumps.
  3. Gradually add the sifted powdered sugar into the melted chocolate mixture, alternating with the 1/4 cup of whole milk, and mixing until you achieve a smooth and glossy consistency.
  4. Stir in the vanilla extract to enhance the flavor of the fudge icing.
Ice and Customize Your Brownies
  1. Once the brownies have cooled in the pan, spread the prepared fudge icing evenly over the top.
  2. If desired, add your favorite toppings like chopped nuts, fresh berries, or a drizzle of warm caramel or melted chocolate.
Serving
  1. Let the icing set for about 20-30 minutes before cutting the brownies into squares.
  2. Serve your iced fudge brownies on a plate with a dollop of whipped cream for an extra indulgent treat.
